Heat Staking/Vibration welding

Heat staking, also known as thermal staking, is a manufacturing process used in the automotive industry (among others) to join two or more plastic components together. It involves using heat to melt a localized portion of one or more plastic parts, and then allowing them to solidify in a way that they fuse together or interlock, creating a strong and permanent bond.

Heat staking can be used to assemble interior components like dashboard panels, door panels, and trim pieces.

The term vibration welding can be used to join plastic bumper components and grilles, providing structural integrity and aesthetic consistency.Vibration welding is relatively quick, making it suitable for high-volume manufacturing. Vibration welding is suitable for creating air ducts, housings for various automotive components, and even portions of the exhaust system.
